Pasado Perfecto / Past Perfect

Had + participio pasado.

Acción completada antes otra cosa en el pasado:

  • You had studied English before you moved to New York.
  • We had finished the job by 2 o’clock.
  • He had already left when we arrived.

Duración antes de algo en el pasado (verbos no continuos).

  • By the time Alex finished his studies, he had been in London for over eight years.

 

El marco temporal también puede entenderse implicitamente del contexto previo o siguiente:

I was eating … I had invited Jim to the meal but he was unable to attend. Yo estaba comiendo… Había invitado a Jim a la comida pero no pudo venir (lo había invitado antes de empezar a comer)

I had lost my way. Me había perdido (esto había pasado antes del tiempo de los eventos pasados que estoy describiendo o voy describir)
